Feminist Educators Against Sexism (#FEAS) is a feminist collective committed to developing interventions into sexism in the academy and other educational spaces. We use a mix of humour, irreverence, guerrilla methodology and collective action to interrupt and disarm both everyday and institutional sexism within Higher Education and other spaces. #FEAS are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, queer people, people of colour, trans* people, indigenous peoples, women, gender queer people, sex workers, people who identify with every letter of LGBTIQ and men. The thing that unites us is our feminism and a strong belief in challenging sexist oppression in every form it takes.
#FEAS are honoured to be running pre and post CIES 2020 events and WE NEED YOU to participate!
During the pre-conference workshop participants will develop their awareness of and ability to interrupt everyday and structural academic sexisms where they find it. #FEAS guerilla research methods will be used to draw from participants’ experiences of such career-stalling sexisms to develop pop-up interventions that we will then enact as a feminist collective immediately during the CIES conference. Participants will be encouraged to transfer these skills to create a survival kit and use these longer-term in their specific workplaces.
The six-hour pre-conference workshop will include:
- Developing a community of practice of women academics across the world, disciplines, and career levels that will contribute to our existing international network
- Providing a supportive opportunity to publicly discuss/address a topic that might usually be difficult or unsafe for a person to address on an individual basis, or in their workplace
- Generating feminist innovative methods and pedagogies, including feminist activist-art methods and curation to intervene in everyday academic sexisms
- To generate new feminist activist-art methods and pedagogies to intervene in everyday academic sexisms that participants can then extend in their own workplace settings
Places are limited to 30 participants! We encourage feminist educators across disciplines and career levels to sign up and become part of this international collective.
